Councillor Up In Arms Over Wollaston Cleanup Delay

A band councillor with the Hatchet Lake First Nation says he’s frustrated that cleanup efforts on a nearby lake have come to a standstill.
Ed Benoanie says Indian Affairs has made it clear it is not willing to give the band extra funds to clean up the residue from a major diesel spill this summer at Welcome Bay.
Benoanie says INAC wants to give the band a loan instead, but he feels that will only handcuff the First Nation financially down the road.
He says something needs to happen soon because there is still diesel in the sand.
Benoanie adds that nothing is getting accomplished while the parties argue about who should pay.
