Tron, the economic development arm of the English River First Nation and the Makwa Development Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding to form a 100 percent First Nations owned joint venture to provide construction services for a massive renovation of the Bruce Power nuclear facility in Ontario.

Sean Willy, President of Des Nedhe Development, which signed the MOU Friday, says the Bruce Power Project will require 22,000 skilled workers.

He says the partnership will look to maximize the employment of Indigenous Peoples.

“We’re just at the start of that conversation, but Bruce Power’s numbers for the refurbishment are going to require over 22,000 people to finish this job over the next number of years,” Willy said.

Tron does have experience in the nuclear sector including; infrastructure and utilities construction to electrical and instrumentation installation, as well as vessel fabrication.
