Northern Civic Elections Get Underway

Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at 14:50

Elections are taking place in three northern communities today.

Civic votes are being held in Missinipe, Uranium City and Camsell Portage.

Missinipe already has its new mayor — Zach Adams got in by acclamation after incumbent Garry Long decided not to seek re-election.

Six candidates are up for the four spots on council, including three incumbents.

In Uranium City and Camsell Portage, the new local advisory committees will be elected at a meeting in each community – not from votes cast in a poll booth.

Nominees won’t be known until those meetings commence.

This is the first round of municipal elections in the North.

The rest of the elections will be spread out over the next five weeks.
