A conference which focuses on maintaining traditional Indigenous educational teachings is taking place in North Battleford this week.

The two-day Kiskihsomitotan conference wraps up Tuesday.

Sylvia Weenie, who is the treaty language culture coordinator for the Treaty Six Education Council, is one of the conference organizers.

“Kiskihsomitotan means let’s remind each other and it’s just more or less bringing people together,” she says. “Because I believe, we believe, as a committee that all of us have a lot of things to share with one another.”

Weenie says the event attracts a wide cross-section of educators.

“It’s focused for the First Nations teachers that are teaching out in our communities as well as the non-First Nations because they have a big impact on our people, on our young children. And also, our elders.”

This is the second year the conference has taken place.
