The 19th annual Aboriginal Provincial Broomball Championships come to La Ronge this weekend.
Leonard Isbister is with the event and says they have five teams registered to take part in the action.
“We have two teams from Hall Lake, we have the Hall Lake Hitmen, we have the Eagles,” said Isbister. “Two local teams from La Ronge, we have the La Ronge Snipers, we also have a team from the JRMCC and then we have Beardy’s and Okemasis coming down.”
The five teams will be competing in a mixed division, featuring rosters made up of male and female competitors. Originally, there were plans for a female division. Due to a lack of entries though, the female division has been axed.
“It’s kind of disappointing,” said Isbister. “I was hoping to see some girl teams from other communities, but it wasn’t meant to be. It seems to be a bad year because a few communities are holding their festivals, so it’s really tough to get those girl teams down.”
Things kick off at Saturday morning at the JRMCC and conclude on Sunday with the finals.
