It appears the La Ronge Ice Wolves search for a new head coach and general manager is coming to a close.
Social media was buzzing over the weekend following speculation on Rod Pedersen’s sports blog that suggested former NHLer Kevin Kaminski could be the new bench boss.
“The rumour making the rounds at SaskTel Centre Friday night was that the next coach of the SJHL’s La Ronge Ice Wolves will be none other than Blades great Kevin Kaminski,” said Rod Pedersen on his popular blog.
Kaminski played 139 games in the NHL and collected 528 penalty minutes in the process. The Churchbridge, SK product played in the WHL with the Saskatoon Blades. He is currently the head coach and general manager of the WSHL’s Fresno Monsters. Kaminski also has years of pro coaching experience.
MBC Radio reached out to the La Ronge Ice Wolves for comment regarding the Kaminski rumour. The Ice Wolves say the team is in the middle of conducting interviews.
“We received many excellent applications for the position and we are having great interviews with our shortlist. We are about halfway done our interviews,” said the Ice Wolves in a written statement on Saturday.
The Ice Wolves are looking for a new head coach and general manager following the departure of Evan Vossen, whose contract was not renewed. Vossen spent parts of three seasons behind the bench and posted a 22-118-2-5 record.
Gaelan Patterson was promoted from assistant coach to interim head coach after the shakeup and went 2-2 during the last four games. The Ice Wolves ended the season on a winning note when they beat Flin Flon 4-3 in a shootout on March 2.
