A 28-year-old woman from the Sturgeon Lake First Nation is in serious condition in a Saskatoon hospital after an assault over the weekend.

RCMP Sgt. Brad Kaeding says she and a 37-year-old man were rushed to Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert early Saturday morning after reports of a disturbance at a reserve residence.

Kaeding says the woman was later transferred to Royal University Hospital with severe head injuries.

The man was initially said to be in serious condition, but was released from care yesterday.

He was then arrested for allegedly assaulting the woman, and is facing several charges.

The suspect was scheduled to make his first court appearance today in Prince Albert.
