A Little Black Bear First Nation man has been sentenced to nine years in jail for killing his domestic partner two-and-half years ago.
An intoxicated Sherman Luke Bellegarde beat and left 33-year-old Lauren Darnell Quewezance for dead on a rural road in the community on the night of Dec. 14, 2016.
She died within an hour of sustained injuries.
A call led police to her body the next morning.
Bellegarde previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
He will be credited 3.5 years for time already served.
The Crown had been seeking 11 years.
The sentence was handed down in Fort Qu’Appelle earlier this month.
