Several members of the Saskatchewan Roughriders will be in northern Saskatchewan this weekend.
Ed Gainey, Zack Evans, Charleston Hughes, Naaman Roosevelt, Micah Johnson and Brendon LaBatte are slated to come to La Ronge for the 2019 Saskatchewan Roughriders Northern Football Jamboree.
Members of the Saskatchewan Roughriders will be instructing young northern football players on the field, as well as off.
“We’re just getting the word out there that football is a sport that means a lot to the kids in the north,” said Mark Williment, who is with the Northern Saskatchewan Football League.
This is the second straight year the Saskatchewan Roughriders have made the trek to La Ronge for the jamboree.
“We’ve been looking forward to this for quite some time and we’ve got a great working relationship with the Saskatchewan Roughriders,” said Williment. “This will be the second time they come around to La Ronge and do some work with our young players – and also our coaches.”
The event begins Friday and is scheduled to come to a close Saturday evening with a steak supper.
Proceeds from the supper are going toward the construction of a track at Churchill Community High School in La Ronge.
