A new police-based victim services program is going to be offered through the Sandy Bay RCMP detachment after receiving funding from the province.
Justice Minister Frank Quennell says the annual $50,000 grant will allow a part-time coordinator to operate in the northern community.
He says the decision to expand victim services was prompted by recommendations offered by the Commission on First Nations and Metis Peoples and Justice Reform.
Quennell says the new funding will also allow for the Northeast Regional Victims Services Program to include the Yellow Quill First Nation.
The victim services program offers support to victims of crime directly after the crime and throughout the judicial process.
