Former La Ronge Ice Wolves Head Coach and GM Evan Vossen has a new gig.
Vossen has been hired by the Banff Hockey Academy to coach the male midget prep team.
“I’m really looking forward to it, obviously getting here and working with some 16-17-year-old kids, working on their development and getting them ready to take the next step,” said Vossen. “Obviously, a lot of them looking towards junior, whether it’s Junior A or major junior and helping them achieve that.”
He spent the last three seasons as the head coach and general manager of the La Ronge Ice Wolves.
The Swift Current, SK product played his junior hockey in La Ronge before suiting up for McGill University for five seasons. Vossen says his experience being a student-athlete in the past attracted him to the position.
“Sitting down with Bill (Doherty) here and discussing what the academy has to offer, and their focus on academics, and developing young student-athletes is something that I’m pretty passionate about and have some experience in, so being able to give back in that sense was pretty important to me,” said Vossen.
Vossen also played pro in the ECHL and CHL for a few seasons following his time at McGill.
