The Prince Albert Grand Council is the setting for a conference on special education today.

A total of 18 guest speakers are talking about subjects ranging from autism to dealing with kids who have socio-emotional challenges.

Event coordinator Tyrone McPherson says the North has made great strides in how it deals with children needing special education.

He says support services from Saskatoon are now offered to the Far North through mobile clinics.

However, McPherson says there is room for improvement in the area of follow-up and intervention.

He also notes most of the diagnoses still take place in southern Saskatchewan.

This is the conference’s fourth year.
