Canoe enthusiasts will be in La Ronge this weekend for the 25th installment of the Eagle Point Canoe Classic.
“We’re the only marathon canoe club in northern Saskatchewan, I think there’s only three in the province, the other two are Regina and Saskatoon,” said Warren Kelly, the president of the La Ronge Canoe Club. “We hope to have about 40-50 canoeists out this Saturday.”
There’s a 17-kilometre race and a 7-kilometre race this year. Kelly says most of the participants are locals, but they do get a few people from outside the La Ronge region.
“We get some canoeists from Saskatoon, Prince Albert and Regina,” said Kelly. “Occasionally we will get some canoeists from Alberta and Manitoba.”
Registration is slated for 9 a.m. on Saturday at Eagle Point Resort.
