The president of a West Coast mining company says uranium exploration has already begun on the Fond du Lac reserve.
Recently, CanAlaska Uranium announced it was entering into a four-year arrangement with the band at a minimum expenditure of $2 million.
Company president Peter Dasler says his group has spent the last three years looking for ore bodies within the Athabasca basin.
Dasler says airborne surveys have already been carried out to the west and north of the reserve, and the company is now preparing to do surface exploration.
He insists the Fond du Lac band will be consulted about the exploration every step of the way.
Dasler says some jobs will be offered to local residents, and the band will collect royalties from any processing done in the future.
