Province Details Road Plans In Far North

The provincial government is shedding more light on its plans to build all-weather roads in the Far North.
Saskatchewan Highways spokesperson Kirsten Leatherdale says the first leg of the project will involve construction of an access road from Highway 905 over to Wollaston Lake.
She says they hope to begin clearing brush by February and start grading by late spring or summer.
Leatherdale says that particular project has a price tag of $16 million, but will provide residents with year-round access to Highway 905.
After that, she says the department plans to construct an all-weather road from Points North up to Black Lake and Stony Rapids.
That work is slated to be done at a pace of 60 kilometres a year from 2007 to 2009.
Once it’s complete, the department can shift its focus to building an access road on the south shore of the Fond du Lac River.
There is no current estimate yet of when that will be done.
Leatherdale cautions all the timelines are contingent on factors like good weather and environmental approval.
She says work on Wollaston Lake will begin once Environment Canada has given her department the green light.
Leatherdale expects that to happen soon.
