Green Lake Takes Control of Silver Lake Farm

The mayor of Green Lake says the long-awaited transfer of the Silver Lake Farm to the community was a historic day for the village.

The land transfer was finalized yesterday in the community by Fred McCallum and provincial ministers Buckley Belanger, Maynard Sonntag, and Mark Wartman.

McCallum says the fight for the Silver Lake Farm has been a long one. McCallum says he has been lobbying for transfer of the land to the northern village since he was first elected mayor in 1994.

McCallum says a business plan is already in place for the Silver Lake Farm, and work will begin as soon as possible.

Sonntag says this transfer marks the last of four farms to be handed to the community after years of court battles.
