A contractor from Wollaston Lake is satisfied with how work on a nearby ice road is coming along.

Ed Benoanie says it will be a while yet before the opening of a seasonal road that connects his community to the rest of the province.

Benoanie says the weather is going to have to turn much colder in order for the road to be completed, but he likes the look of the ice so far.

He also notes they have had so much slush on the ice, that some of it has dropped into the lake and froze, and is now re-inforcing the ice on top.

In a normal year, the ice road to Wollaston Lake is typically opened in early January.

Last winter, the unusually warm weather severely delayed the opening of the ice road, causing serious supply shortages.
