AREVA Executive Joins Cameco

A prominent name in Saskatchewan’s uranium industry has accepted a position with a rival company.

Tim Gitzel will become Cameco’s new senior vice-president and chief operating officer in early 2007.

Gitzel has 16 years of senior management experience in the industry, and most recently has been based in France as AREVA’s executive vice-president of its mining business unit.

Cameco and AREVA have a long history of joint venture partnerships, including mining operations in Saskatchewan.

Gitzel will assume responsibility for all of Cameco’s uranium mining and milling facilities in Saskatchewan, as well as Cameco holdings in the U.S., Ontario and Kazakhstan.

Gitzel is replacing Terry Rogers, who is retiring next year.

A Cameco news release says Rogers has agreed to stay on with the company a bit longer than planned in order to provide oversight to the remediation work at the flooded Cigar Lake project.
