Public Review Of Athabasca Projects Nears End

Today is the deadline for the public to comment on a couple of development projects in Saskatchewan’s Far North.
An official at the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency says one of them is a proposed hydro-electric project on the Fond du Lac river.
The project belongs to the Black Lake First Nation and would be situated at Elizabeth Falls, should it go ahead.
Meanwhile, a proposal to expand some mining and milling activities at McClean Lake is also going under the microscope.
That proposal would involve open-pit mining of a uranium deposit near the eastern edge of the Athabasca basin.
The agency’s Kristina Farmer says the full study of both projects could take a year to complete.
