The Saskatoon Friendship Inn has kicked off its Fill the Plate campaign for the month of December.
Organizers say this year’s campaign is extra special because Nutrien has agreed to match individual donations over the course of the month to a maximum of $100,000.
Friendship Inn Executive Director Sandra Kary said whatever is raised in December will hopefully go a long way in helping the organization fund its operations well into 2020.
“Well, it really does help us out because we talk about to serve a plate, or a meal, here at the Friendship Inn it costs us about $5 and we serve up to 1,000 meals every day,” she said. “So, the contribution that Nutrien gives us and the community assisting us helps us fund our operations throughout a good portion of the year in order to continue meeting that need.”
Kary said demand for meals is up about 15 per cent this year over last.
The Fill the Plate campaign ends on Dec. 31.
The Saskatoon Friendship Inn is also celebrating its 50th year of operation.
