The La Ronge Ice Wolves are getting set to conclude their pre-Christmas schedule.
The Ice Wolves will host the Flin Flon Bombers Friday night at the Mel Hegland Uniplex in the opener of a home-and-home weekend series.
“They are very offensively-gifted, they have guys who can make plays and they’ve got guys who can put the puck in the net,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach and GM Kevin Kaminski.
Friday’s game marks the fourth of 10 meetings between the Ice Wolves and the Bombers this season. Flin Flon leads the set 2-1 so far.
La Ronge won the last game 6-5 in overtime at the Mel back on Dec. 6 in a wild and wacky affair that saw La Ronge blow two two-goal leads.
The Ice Wolves are currently sitting in fifth in the SJHL standings with their 19-14-4 mark, while the Bombers are holding down second with a 23-7-4 record. The Ice Wolves have recorded points in six straight games and have won their last two games. Flin Flon will search for its second straight victory.
La Ronge is just three points back of Yorkton for third at the moment. Since their blockbuster trade with the Melville Millionaires at the end of October, the Ice Wolves have posted a 12-3-2 record.
“It’s going to be a tough task, Flin Flon is second overall in the league,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach and GM Kevin Kaminski. “Our team has really grown, really developed here. They’ve got a great locker room. We’ve really made some big strides here, so yes, we want to go into the holidays with two more wins under our belt and then come back here with more confidence.”
Friday’s battle between the Ice Wolves and Bombers is slated to get underway at 7:30 p.m. from the Mel Hegland Uniplex. Saturday’s tilt at the Whitney Forum also kicks off at 7:30 p.m.
You can catch Saturday’s contest live on MBC Network Radio with Braden Malsbury. The pre-game show begins at 7:15 p.m.
