the Gabriel Dumont Institute (GDI) is announcing a potential new graduate program in the La Ronge area: the community-based Master of Education, and is seeking public input, students.
An information session will be hosted in Mistasinihk Place at 7pm tonight, Monday, January 13th.
GDI staff and directors will be in attendance to field questions related to the program, including details on admission prerequisites, timelines, and available sources of funding. GDI’s Suzanne Depeel was available for comment from Prince Albert, encouraging anyone who’s interested–or may know someone who is interested–to attend.
GDI has begun expanding its post-secondary training and education programs in northern Saskatchewan following the October 23rd, 2019 singing of an Affiliation Agreement with the University of Regina (U of R); GDI and the U of R have a healthy 40-year relationship of collaboration, and continue to find new ways to work together.
The new agreement allows for the joint development of other the community-based Master and other programs, and educational initiatives, as needed, to address post-secondary education needs of students of Métis ancestry in Saskatchewan. Nevertheless, says Depeel, everyone should attend the information session as these programs are not limited to only Metis students–all Indigenous, ESL (English as a second language), and non-status persons are encouraged to apply.
Notably, in October GDI and the U of R also two also signed a renewed agreement for the Saskatchewan Urban Native Teacher Education Program (SUNTEP).
“The affiliation agreements are a critical step in continuing our mandate of expanding educational opportunities for Métis students,” said Chair of the GDI Board of Governors, Earl Cook.
