The Stanley Mission River Hawks continue their search for a provincial pee wee D title.
The River Hawks defeated Carrot River in round one and they are now battling Muenster in the second round. Stanley Mission and Muenster skated to a 1-1 tie in the opening game of the best-of-three series.
Korrie Ratt is the assistant coach for the Stanley Mission club and he says they need to allow less shots next game.
“We don’t want to put our goalie in that kind of predicament again – to have him face that many shots when we can do a lot better,” said Ratt. “Our guys played OK, but they weren’t forechecking, they were just sitting back. We’ve got to play a totally different game I think to try and help out our goalie. For us to succeed, I think we got to attack more.”
Ratt says having the team in provincials is good exposure for the community.
“When we went to Muenster, there were a lot of fans and grandparents of the kids coming up to me and asking where we were from,” said Ratt. “They were happy to see a northern team playing so far down south. They were asking us exactly where it (Stanley Mission) is and how the travel was. They’ve been really nice to us.”
Game two between Stanley Mission and Muenster is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Sunday in Stanley Mission.
