Northern Saskatchewan was supposed to be the site of a provincial broomball tournament this weekend.
Due to a lack of entries, the 20th Annual Aboriginal and Metis Provincial Broomball Tournament has been cancelled.
“We had a cancellation due to more interest going to the regular provincials that they hold across the province,” said Leonard Isbister, who is the organizer of the event. “More of the teams and players wanted to go to the more competitive broomball (event.)”
The event was slated to take place at the JRMCC, which is located on the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.
“It’s a little disappointing, we had a few teams interested, but just not enough to have it,” said Isbister. “We had three teams interested, we had two paid and it’s just not feasible to run provincials with just three teams.”
La Ronge played host to the tournament in 2019.
