The National Aboriginal Hockey Championships have been cancelled.

The event was originally scheduled for May 9-16 in Regina, SK.

The Aboriginal Sport Circle (ASC) was advised of Hockey Canada’s decision to cancel all sanctioned events until further notice.

“This incredible event brings together young Indigenous elite athletes, their families, elders, community members and everyday hockey fans. The NAHC is a celebration of sport and showcases all that our Indigenous athletes have to offer,” said Jeff Spencer, who is the chair of the ASC National Hockey Committee.

“The protection and safety of our athletes, their families and community is of the utmost priority and required us to take decisive action for this year’s event.”

Meantime, the FSIN confirmed the postponement of all FSIN-related sporting events, gatherings, conferences and forums until further notice on Monday.
