Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the La Ronge Ice Wolves have cancelled their annual year-end awards banquet, which was tentatively scheduled for March 21.
“We will be planning a banquet and jersey auction the same weekend as our golf tournament, still scheduled for June 13,” said the team in a post on Facebook. “We’ll be looking for ways to bring this team back to give our great fans a chance to see them off properly.”
The Ice Wolves had their playoff run cut short last Friday when the CJHL cancelled the rest of playoffs due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
La Ronge was in the midst of a first-round series with the Yorkton Terriers. The Ice Wolves tied the set at two games apiece following a convincing 5-1 victory last Wednesday night in front of over 800 fans at the Mel Hegland Uniplex.
The Ice Wolves were on their way to Yorkton last Thursday for game five, but the team was forced to turn around and head home after the CJHL originally postponed play. Game five was supposed to take place last Friday night in Yorkton.
La Ronge recorded a 33-19-6 record this season and a .621 winning percentage, which was the second-best winning percentage in franchise history.
