The La Ronge Skating Club has cancelled its Carnival Cruise program due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Colin Ratushniak is a coach with the La Ronge Skating Club and he says Skate Canada and Skate Saskatchewan advised the club to scrap any planned events or lessons for the rest of the season.
“It’s really too bad because all of our skaters and all of our parents, families and coaches, they were really looking forward to presenting to the community,” said Ratushniak. “Also with the added highlight of bringing my skating partner in from abroad and us performing for the community – we were really looking forward to it and it’s really sad that the season had to come to an abrupt end.”
Ratushniak says they will look at holding the event in the fall.
“We’re just sort of playing it by ear and if things can sort of work out in the fall once the ice gets back into the Mel (Hegland Uniplex) and the season starts up again – hopefully we’ll get the opportunity to let the kids perform,” said Ratushniak.
The figure skating event was supposed to take place on Thursday night in La Ronge at the Mel Hegland Uniplex.
