Saskatoon’s Cameco corporation has announced a $1 million fund to help northern Saskatchewan communities deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The uranium mining company says the fund is open to charities, non-profits, municipalities and First Nations in Saskatoon and the north.

One-time grants of up to $50,000 are available.

Money must be used directly for COVID-19 activities and not primarily to fund staff salaries, building or infrastructure costs.

On approval, 75 per cent of funds will be released with the remaining 25 per cent released upon receiving financial and impact reporting.

Deadline to apply is Apr. 28.
