A La Ronge fitness centre is one of the local businesses planning to open its doors June 8 as part of phase three of the Saskatchewan Re-open Plan.
On Friday, the province released guidelines fitness facilities must follow when they re-open.
The Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre (JRMCC) gym closed on Mar. 19 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
JRMCC’s director of sport, culture and recreation Kevin Roberts said the facility is facing financial struggles due to the closure.
“When nobody’s using the gym, there’s no revenue for us,” he said. “That impacts us greatly in that way.”
Roberts said he is also worried about the struggles the facility’s patrons have been facing.
“People aren’t allowed to use the gyms so that impacts their health and well-being as well.”
He said staff is now working on a plan to ensure the facility is following the safety guidelines put in place by the provincial government.
“So, we’re just figuring out now how that will look in terms of our operations. We are seeing how we will revise our set up inside our gym with the machines to consider the social distancing factor.”
Roberts also said the facility is planning for additional daily cleaning and sanitation.
Other guidelines the province has provided for fitness facilities are easily accessible drinking water fountains, screening of users upon arrival and limits on the number of members that can use a gym at one time.
