Black Lake First Nation is going into lockdown.

In a media release sent out early Thursday afternoon the First Nation announced Chief and Council had voted to authorize a week long lockdown for the community effective immediately. The release said the action is being done to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The lockdown is set to be in place until Dec. 17. As part of the lockdown no large gatherings are allowed and RCMP are being authorized to investigate and level charges if needed. A curfew will also be in effect from 11 p.m. at night until 7 a.m. in the morning.

Non band members and band members who do not live in the community will not be allowed to enter. Roadblock security will be in place to ensure the lockdown is enforced.

The band will allow those with serious medial and health issues along with anyone else deemed to be essential to leave or enter the community.

Residents who return from being outside the community are being asked to self isolate and self monitor for two days. People who develop symptoms are being asked to call local health or 811.
