The Northern Inter Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) is reporting 246 active cases of COVID-19.

The far northeast region continues to report the highest number with 136 active cases. The far northwest has the second highest case count at 67, followed by the north east which is reporting 22 cases. NITHA’s north central region is currently reporting 20 active cases. In Athabasca in the far north central part of the province, one active case is being reported.

Seven people are in hospital and 1,099 recoveries are being reported.

Outbreak declared at Stanley Mission

NITHA has also declared a COVID-19 outbreak in the community of Stanley Mission.

In statement posted online the health authority said the declaration comes after an increase in confirmed cases linked to private family gatherings over the holidays. According to NITHA the gatherings took place on Dec. 25 and Dec. 31.

People who were at these events and are experiencing symptoms being advised to self isolate and arrange for testing. Those without symptoms are being encouraged to self monitor for 14 days from their latest exposure.
