The Lac La Ronge Indian Band is mourning the loss of one of its elders.
A press release from the First Nation says Kate Hamilton, who served as the representative for Hall Lake on the council of elders from 2008 to 2020, has passed away.
The release also says Hamilton was the first female councillor from Sucker River to be elected to band council.
She served as a community health representative for La Ronge and Hall Lake and was a strong advocate for other elders, children and youth.
A former queen trapper, Hamilton held certificates in paramedics, firefighting and midwifery.
Aside from trapping, she also worked as a commercial fisherwoman and was an avid hunter.
Wake services are to be held Tuesday afternoon at Kitaski Hall in La Ronge.
