Onion Lake RCMP say they have charged five people after a vehicle chase where gunshots were fired on New Year’s Day.
Police say the chase began west of the Onion Lake Cree Nation and ended at the local high school on the reserve.
Mounties say they were fired upon a number of times while pursuing a black SUV.
Thirty-nine-year-old Twaine Buffalo, 37-year-old Glynnis Chief, 35-year-old Tyler Wolfe, all of Onion Lake Cree Nation, Danny Weeseekase of Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation and 32-year-old Melissa McAlpine of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan are facing various charges.
These charges include discharge of a weapon with intent to endanger life, assault of a police officer with a weapon and being an occupant of a vehicle knowing there was a firearm.
Mounties say all five suspects have local gang affiliations.
Police also seized a number of firearms and ammunition from the SUV.
All five are currently in custody and next due in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Jan. 20.
