Saskatchewan’s northern ice and seasonal roads are starting to open up.
The Ministry of Highways said the Fond du Lac to Uranium City Ice Road is open today, as there is a minimum of 18 inches of ice. The maximum weight is 12539 KG or 27650 lbs.
Shasko Bay to Fond du Lac Ice Road is too open with similar limitations to the Uranium City Ice Road.
Ministry spokesperson David Horth said the Athabasca/Points North Landing to Black Lake Road is open for normal operations.
The Stony Rapids to Shasko Bay Overland is also open, but Horth warns the road is rough and caution is needed.
The Wollaston Lake Ice Road remains under construction.
“It’s been a challenging year. The temperatures haven’t been as cold as typical. And we’re actually dealing with more snow. So we’re working on it,” Horth explained.
An opening date for the Wollaston Lake Ice Road has yet to be set.
