A former member of the Beardy’s Blackhawks is off to college next season.
Saskatoon’s Talon Thomas will play for the University of Toledo, which is an ACHA Div. 1 program.
“It was something I never really thought of until this season I guess, until schools start contacting you,” said Thomas. “Kevin in Kam River and my hockey buddy Zach, they really helped me out with the college stuff – just getting prepared I guess for what I need to do, what I need to know.”
The 6’6” forward tallied five points in four games this season with the Kam River Fighting Walleye in the SIJHL.
Prior to his time in the junior ranks, Thomas spent two campaigns with the Beardy’s Blackhawks in the Saskatchewan U18 AAA ranks. In 86 games with the Blackhawks, he had 61 points and 118 penalty minutes.
Thomas says former Beardy’s coach Dale Grayston certainly helped him during his hockey journey.
“That guy taught me everything I know,” said Thomas. “I thought I was a good hockey player until I went to the Beardy’s AAA program — and the guy taught me everything I didn’t know.”
Thomas began his junior career with the OCN Blizzard in 2018.
