Clem Chartier has announced he is seeking the presidency of the Métis Nation-Saskatchewan in an upcoming election this spring.

Chartier, originally from Buffalo Narrows, has been involved in Métis politics in one form or another for the past 40 years.

He and a number of other individuals involved in Métis politics in the province are currently at odds with current MN-S President Glen McCallum and the rest of the executive over a number of issues including who will have the right to vote in the election.

Chartier launched a legal challenge against the MN-S last week in Saskatoon claiming as many as 65,000 eligible voters could be disenfranchised in the election due to changes to the organization’s constitution in 2019.

He is a past president of both the Métis National Council and MN-S.

The election takes place May 29.
