The unofficial election results posted on the Métis Nation-Saskatchewan election site show incumbent Glen McCallum has been re-elected to serve another term as the organization’s president.
McCallum won re-election with 1,672 votes, his closest challenger was former MN-S president Clem Chartier who finished second with 1,459 votes. Karen LaRocque finished third with 634 votes and Mary Anne Morin finished fourth with 623 votes.
In the vice president’s race Michelle LeClair defeated four others to win that office with 1,370 votes. In the race for secretary Lisa McCallum bested four other candidates to capture the office with 1,531 votes. Finally in the race for treasurer, John Robert LaFontaine won a tight race against five other candidates to win that office with 899 votes.
There was some controversy going into this election as a group of former leaders including Clem Chartier filed a court action arguing recent changes made governing who was able to vote violated the organization’s constitution. A court eventually ruled the voting changes did not violate the organization’s constitution.
