Vet Wants To Bring Dog Bite Program To North

The Saskatchewan Veterinary Medical Association is hoping to convince northern schools to sign up for a new initiative.
The “Be A Tree” program is aimed at teaching young kids how to deal with threatening dogs when out by themselves.
The association’s Dr. Sally Cleland says the method is fairly simple. If a dog comes up to you and looks like it may bite, simply fold your hands in front of you, stay silent and don’t move.
The method also teaches kids what to do if the dog actually does start to bite.
Cleland notes dog-bites in North America occur every 40 seconds and the number of fatal incidents is on the rise as well.
