The Cumberland House Cree Nation is getting ready for their band elections.
Band members on the First Nation will be able to vote on election day which is August 27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m at Senator Hall. Those who want to vote early can go on August 23 where the poll will have the same hours.
For membership living outside the community there is a poll in Saskatoon at the Ramada Inn in the Riel Room from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on August 20. Band members in Prince Albert can cast their ballots at the Cumberland Crossing Inn on August 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nipawin will also have a poll at Evergreen on August 22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Two candidates have put their name forward for Chief. Rene Chaboyer is standing for re-election while Walter Sewap is opposing him.
12 people have put their names forward for election to council, which has four seats. Delores Settee Crane, Raymond Settee, Thomas Settee, Leon Budd, Angus Mckenzie, Delores Laliberty, William “Bill” Cook, Julius Crane, Beverly Goulet, Sheldon Goulet, Edgar Laliberte and Robert Mckay Sr.
