Two ridings in Saskatoon have Indigenous candidates hoping to punch their ticket to Ottawa in tonight’s federal election.

In Saskatoon-West, former Metis Nation-Saskatchewan president, Robert Doucette is running for the NDP.

While in Saskatoon-University former, FSIN CEO Dawn Walker, is running for the Liberals.

Saskatoon-West is expected to be a tight battle having been an NDP stronghold for many years under Sherri Benson. Benson held the seat from 2015 to 2019 until the seat went Conservative last election to incumbent Brad Redekkop.

Now Doucette is looking to reclaim the seat for the NDP.

Walker may have a more uphill battle as the Saskatoon-University seat has been held by the Conservatives since its creation in 2015.

Walker is up against Conservative incumbent Cory Tochor.

According to the latest polling data from 338Canada Saskatoon-West is considered an NDP-Conservative toss-up with a slight 2 percent lead for the Conservatives.

In Saskatoon-University, the polls say the riding is leaning Conservative.
