Cameco is again exploring opportunities to fuel small modular reactors, this time in Poland.
On Thursday morning, Cameco announced they have signed a similar agreement to explore options of providing a fuel supply chain for these small modular reactors in Poland.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by several companies along with Cameco. They include GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy, GEH SMR Technologies Canada, Ltd. and Synthos Green Energy (SGE), a member of the Synthos Group S.A.
The goal of the MOU is to explore the development of a fuel supply chain for the development of small modular reactors in Poland.
“We believe nuclear energy will play a major role in helping countries and companies around the world achieve their net-zero emission targets,” said Cameco president and CEO Tim Gitzel. “This MOU is a great example of the kind of innovative solutions businesses like Synthos Green Energy are exploring and how SMRs could contribute to industry-driven efforts to decarbonize.”
“We look forward to working with Cameco and GEH in understanding the uranium requirements for a fleet of BWRX-300s in Poland and the support that Canada has to offer,” said Rafał Kasprów, President of the Board of Synthos Green Energy.
According to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission small modular reactor technology has risen in recent years in recent years with the potential to supply power to remote and off-the-grid areas.
