Dropped Newborn Lawsuit Months Away From Court

A lawsuit involving a Northern Saskatchewan woman whose newborn baby fell to a hospital floor last year will not be heard in court this week as initially reported.
Last week, several media outlets reported the case involving Rebecca Chinalquay and the Meadow Lake Hospital would be headed to Court of Queen’s Bench in Saskatoon this week.
But Chinalquay’s lawyer, Bruce Slusar, says while proceedings related to the lawsuit are ongoing, it will be several months before the case is heard in court.
Slusar says they are at a stage where both parties can study each other’s claims in the suit and respond to the accusations.
In her statement of claim, Chinalquay alleges the hospital failed to have qualified staff on hand and failed to monitor her condition prior to her delivery.
But in the hospital’s statement of defence, it alleges Chinalquay was being uncooperative with staff and didn’t allow them to monitor her.
