The Aboriginal Peoples Television Network is in the initial stages of offering a better quality digital service to its audience.
CEO Jean LaRose says the network has been approved to begin transitioning its regular programming into the High Definition format, which he estimates will begin to be offered to viewers in the next few months.
Larose says the network will start with 18 to 20 hours of HD programming per week.
The plan is to eventually offer 100 per cent of APTN program in the HDTV format within the next two or three years.
LaRose says APTN wants to be at the forefront of the industry-mandated change into the High Definition format, which will be required of all networks in the next three to five years.
The CRTC approved APTN’s application for a transition licence last week.
