Former Priest Accused of Assaulting Kids in Dillon

A lawsuit is pending against a former priest accused of committing sex crimes against children in Dillon and Beauval.

Norbert Dufault served as a priest in Dillon in the late 1950s and early 1960s before being transferred to the Beauval residential school, where he served as a supervisor.

Earlier this year, he consented to stand trial on numerous charges.

The lawyer representing some of Dufault’s alleged victims, Bruce Slusar, won’t get into specifics — but says the charges laid against the former priest are of a sexual nature.

Slusar says it will likely be several months before Dufault’s case is dealt with by the courts, and says that’s when the alleged victims will likely launch their civil action.

Slusar represents 12 alleged victims from the Buffalo River Dene Nation.
