The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations is calling on the Canadian government to release all documents and compensation in relation to residential schools.
They’re also asking that the federal government, “stop politicizing the healing” of residential school survivors.
The FSIN’s statement comes after a CBC report looking into the Canadian government dropping a compensation case for survivors in 2015 was released. It showed current and former politicians and government officials either unable or refusing to answer why it was dropped.
The report also showed these individuals refusing to share documents from the period.
In the statment, FSIN chief Bobby Cameron calls this a slap in the face to survivors.
The FSIN is asking that the government release all documents and compensation to survivors so they can begin healing.
Cameron also called on the government to ensure the church is held accountable.
