A man facing a charge of second degree murder in the death of his 13 month old son had his case adjourned Monday morning in Prince Albert Provincial Court.
Kaij Brass was not present when a lawyer acting on his behalf asked for the adjournment. Brass’s matter is set to be back in court on March 25.
The death of baby Tanner Brass has led to calls from the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) for firings at the Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS). The FSIN alleges Tanner’s mother Kyla Frenchman tried to warn officers that he was in danger, but was ignored as she was being arrested. Police were later called back to the same home about the baby’s death.
PAPS handling of the situation is currently under investigation by the Public Complaints Commission (PCC). Last week it was announced that two of the officers who first attended the original call where Frenchman was arrested were suspended pending the outcome of the PCC investigation. P.A. police have previously announced changes to their senior leadership structure in response to baby Tanner’s death.
