Premier Brad Wall and several of his cabinet ministers were on the Thunderchild First Nation today for an industry and business summit.
The premier held a closed-door meeting with the band’s chief and council this morning — while several of the band’s industrial partners, oil companies and firms representing other sectors took in a presentation on Aboriginal law.
Wall and members of his cabinet wrapped up their visit with a tour of the Thunderchild Technical Institute.
Wall said his government will study the band’s proposals.
Both Wall and Chief Dale Awasis noted nearly half the Aboriginal people in Saskatchewan are unemployed or underemployed.
Wall said he likes what Thunderchild is doing to help address the province’s labour shortage, and added “they’re ahead of the game” when it comes to the duty to consult and accommodate.
The band council also had closed-door discussions with industry representatives.
