Shoal Lake Exploring Tourism Potential

The Shoal Lake Cree Nation is looking to upgrade tourism in its area.
Economic development officer Rene Whitecap says a business plan is being developed that will examine whether or not adventure sports like dogsledding, hiking and cross-country skiing are activities that would attract out-of-region visitors to their area.
Whitecap says a provincial wilderness park –located right across the road from the reserve — would provide an excellent venue for recreation as well as support facilities.
Whitecap says both Indian Affairs and Aboriginal Business Canada have provided funding for them to get started, and the idea seems to have widespread support.
Whitecap says additional business partnerships will be looked at in the future, but right now, the main goal is to determine whether or not this project will work.
