Metis Man Named Next Great Prime Minister

A Metis man from Saskatoon says, now that he has been named “Canada’s Next Great Prime Minister”, he’s thinking about getting into politics.
Alika Lafontaine, a 25-year-old doctor, won the title on a CBC-TV reality show that aired on Sunday.
He beat out hundreds of candidates and three other finalists.
Lafontaine says he has a way to make life better for Aboriginal People — set up an Aboriginal House in Parliament.
He argues laws could be passed there by –- and for –- Aboriginal people.
Lafontaine made that suggestion during the show, and believes that might be why he won.
He got the idea for the Aboriginal House from his brother, his dad and former northern Saskatchewan MP Rick Laliberte.
Lafontaine also says he would rather serve as a federal or provincial politician than in Aboriginal politics because of the ability to address issues by legislative means.
Lafontaine admits not being a big fan of federal politicians before applying for the show.
But he changed his mind after talking to some of the panelists — former Prime Ministers John Turner, Kim Campbell, Paul Martin, and Newfoundland Premier Danny Williams.
He decided to go on the show after he and his brother saw it last year.
