Saskatoon Police confirm the man shot and killed by officers Thursday was from La Loche.
Police allege the unidentified 26-year-old man was armed with a gun in the 1300 Block of Avenue E North.
Police claim the man pointed a firearm at them inside and outside a multi-unit home. Authorities assert that they responded to the area on a report of shots being fired.
A SWAT Team entered the home, where they were confronted by the armed suspect and the shooting occurred. Police did not say if the suspect fired at or pointed his firearm at officers immediately prior to the police shooting. It is not known how many shots were fired at the suspect or whether live-saving measures were performed.
Regina Police and the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team are investigating. The Ministry of Justice has appointed two independent observers to the investigation.
